The constellation Capricorn has been called "goat" since the time of the Chaldeans and Babylonians. Sometimes it appears as a goat, but usually a fish's tail is added. It has to do with the legend about the god Pan. According to the Greek legend, Pan was responsible for having warned Zeus and his companions (blowing on a shell), during the era of mythological battles for supremacy over the universe between the Titans and the gods from Olympus, from the presence of the Titans, during an onslaught that intended to take the gods by surprise. Later, when he fled the monster Typhon, he lay down on the Nile. The submerged part then became the tail of a fish, keeping the upper part in the shape of a goat.
 Thousands of years ago, the Sun reached its southernmost position in the sky (when the winter solstice happens) in front of the Capricorn constellation. During that time the tropic of Capricorn was in south latitude.
 
 It is still called, even though the sun, as a result of precession, is now in the constellation of Sagittarius during the winter solstice.
 
 Capricorn is the least visible constellation of the Zodiac, and can be found joining the three brightest stars in the constellation The Eagle, in a line drawn in the south direction.
