For hundreds of years, this feeble zodiacal constellation has been regarded as one or two fish.
 It is not a constellation of easy location because it is extensive and consists of stars of low brightness, but it can be found if we follow the direction pointed by the Pleiades (star cluster opened in Taurus) or, vaguely, by the shield of Orionte. Anyone who knows how to locate the neighboring constellation of Aries (Aries), with its two brightest stars, has the task much easier. Pisces has the shape of a very large "V" that seems to fit into one of the vertices of the famous "Pegasus Square", an asterism easy to find and that identifies the constellation of the winged horse.
 
 This constellation is very old and its origin seems to go back to the Babylonian civilization. Pisces represented for the Greeks Aphrodite (the goddess of love known to the Romans as Venus) and her son Eros (the god of passion and eroticism known to the Romans as Cupid), transformed into two fish to escape the monster Typhon. Aphrodite would have tied a rope between you and Eros so they wouldn't get lost in each other.
 Legend has it that the Olympian gods had fought a series of battles with two other races - the Giants and the Titans - for supremacy over Earth. After achieving victory by subduing their enemies, Gaia (the Greek goddess who personified Earth itself) sent the mighty Typhon monster to face the Olympian gods. Caught by surprise, most of them turned into animals of different species and managed to elude the creature, but their leader, Zeus, was eventually captured by Typhon. The legend ends with the ultimate victory of Zeus, who manages to free himself, chases and defeats the monster, burying him (according to one version of the myth) under the Etna volcano. Immortal, Typhon remains inside, causing the volcano to erupt when disturbed.
